Language Access Is a Right, Not a Privilege

Language Access Rights and How LTC Can Help

At LTC, we recognize that immigration news and policies are changing rapidly and can deeply impact our communities. We encourage you to stay informed through trusted sources. For up-to-date information on immigration news, resources, and your rights, please visit USAHello.

Who Is Covered

Under Title VI of the 1964 Civil Rights Act, public agencies are obligated to provide competent language assistance to limited-English-proficient individuals. This includes:

  • Government agencies
  • Hospitals and clinics
  • Social services
  • Legal and law enforcement settings
  • Schools and educational institutions

If you’re unsure whether you’re entitled to interpretation, visit USAHello’s language rights guide.

What to Do If You Are Denied Interpretation

If you or someone you serve is denied interpretation, take these steps:

  • Politely remind the provider of the obligation to offer language support.
  • Use a language ID card to indicate your preferred language.
  • Ask to escalate the issue or request a supervisor.
