What Propels You?

When I arrived for my first day on the job, I was shown where my desk was, and I was given my very own multi-colored cap with a propeller on top. The embroidered patch above the bill read: LTC Language Solutions. It was an initiation into a culture as unique and adaptable as the man behind the propellers, CEO Martin George.

He adapted the idea himself from a networking event where the hats were used as a  gimmick to boost table traffic. He saw a piece of tchotchke and turned it into a  template for how to fit into this organization. Working at LTC means that you are  propelled by a passion for people and their languages. We deal with them both as a  whole. Languages are creative connective forces between people. We love to teach  them, translate them, and interpret them so that lives are made better.

When a refugee can have her baby safely delivered with the help of an LTC  interpreter, we are all family. When a company increases its market share by 10% by  translating its website into another language, we all profit. When a young immigrant  line worker learns English and is promoted to supervisor, we are all rewarded.

On my way to the foosball table that’s set up in the conference room, I often hear a smattering of Mandarin or some Burmese banter. There are signers of sign language and speakers of Spanish all around this lone talker of Thai. We at LTC literally walk the talk, and although we know how to have fun and laugh with each other, we are serious about what we do because we love it. We love languages because we love the people behind all those languages. That’s what propels us.
